Predicting SA Champions’ Playing XI for the 6th Match against IND Champions in WCL 2025

As the World Championship of Legends gets closer to the finish line, South Africa Champions (SA-C) get ready for their 6th match of the tournament against India Champions (IND-C). Both teams have shown flashes of promise and little chance to have been overly dominant; thus, this game should be an entertaining match of cricket. After a hard-fought tie with West Indies Champions, where SA-C showed hints of quality in what has largely been an inconsistent tournament, they will be hoping to put out their best XI and have a significant victory at the County Ground, Northampton.

Openers

Richard Levi

South Africa’s top order has had its trials but also some resilience. Richard Levi has power and demonstrated strokeplay with an intent to give South Africa some early inertia, scoring 5 off 7 balls. While it is not a large contribution but his intent was there, and with the boundary always a threat right from the start, one considered Levi, the South African player who hit 90 off 35 balls, a threat.

At the crease, Amla exudes calm with a batting style honed around the world. 15 runs off 18 balls appears fairly average, but he could become a pressure anchor like Kallis used to be. They both bring a combination of aggression and security, and could provide SA-C with a foothold to push on from.

Middle Order

Sarel Erwee

The success of SA-C relies heavily on their middle order, especially in a chase. Sarel Erwee’s knock of 27 runs from 18 balls against WI Champs was incredibly strong and showed he can hit at a good strike rate of 150, while almost effortlessly handling pressure. Duminy’s inning of 25 not out from 12 balls, with a strike rate of over 200 and just blistering, showcased that he can finish out innings in a hurry.

All-Rounders

Wayne Parnell

Allrounders tend to swing things in a close match, and as an allrounder duo, JJ Smuts and Wayne Parnell are important to SA-C. While Smuts only got 4 runs before he was dismissed by Edwards in the last match, his contributions with the ball and his sharp pieces of fielding bring a lot to the table.

Parnell remained not out in the last game and is still a dangerous allrounder who, as we saw against Queensland, can score a few runs down the order, and also provides seam bowling options up front.

Bowlers

N Edwards

South Africa’s bowlers showed patches of brilliance amid some struggles, ultimately sealing the game. Sheldon Cottrell’s 3 overs yielded 16 runs and 2 wickets, creating vital pressure that proved decisive against the West Indies Champions. Using swing and economy, he adds value as a wicket-taking option.

Though a bit expensive, N Edwards’ two key wickets and relentless speed and bounce make him a formidable challenge for any batsman. These two spearheads should lead again against the India Champions, and it will be about finding any benefit from the pitch to early breakthroughs, to set the tone.

To climb the WCL rankings, the South African Champions must defeat the Indian Champions in this pivotal match. SA-C is coming into the match with steady openers in Levi and Amla, reliable middle-order batsmen in Erwee and Duminy, all-rounders in Smuts and Parnell to balance the squad, and strike bowlers in Cottrell and Edwards to take the wickets. It is a crucial match and important for their bid to turn their campaign for WCL around.
