Predicting IND-C’s Playing XI for the 1st Semi-Final against PAK-C in WCL 2025

As the World Championship of Legends 2025 reaches the business end, the stage is set for a big semi-final between India Champions vs. Pakistan Champions at Edgbaston. India Champions come into this match with a spring in their step after a massive five-wicket victory against the West Indies Champions in their final group game. Some of their key players have found form, and their squad is good. The big question now is what will India’s playing XI be for this all-important knockout match?

Openers

Shikhar Dhawan

The top order is likely to be anchored by Shikhar Dhawan and Robin Uthappa. Dhawan looked like he was in sublime form last match when he scored a brisk 25 off 18 balls with two fours and two sixes. Dhawan plays fast and spins very well, and in English conditions, is a real asset, especially with a proven track record.

Uthappa has not found his wicket-keeping strength, and even though he contributed with only 8 runs against WI-C, he brings stability and experience, which can not be overlooked. As a player in the power play, he was aggressive. And having played in Edgbaston, Uthappa would be comfortable in these conditions, having played in similar conditions when he was in his prime.

Middle Order

Yuvraj Singh

Expect the middle order to pivot around Yuvraj Singh and Yusuf, striking a perfect balance between patience and power. During the high-pressure phase against the West Indies, Yuvraj walked out to bat and immediately responded with a whirring 21 off 11 balls – showcasing high-octane and vintage strokeplay.

Pathan unleashed a powerful assault during the closing stages of the innings. His 21 off 7 balls would help India run past the target with 40 to spare. Yusuf is known as the big-hitting batsman and offers the X-factor; he can win matches off his bat in a few overs. Yusuf’s spin attack will also help to negate one of the major bowling strengths of Pakistan-C.

All-Rounders

Stuart Binny

Stuart Binny is as clear a choice as there could be, following his remarkable performance in India’s last match. His all-round performance of scoring 50 runs off 21 balls and bowling figures of 2/17 won him the Player of the Match award. Smart medium pace, together with explosive batting down the order, make him a true asset to India at this World Cup.

Suresh Raina is another all-round option (not as effective as Stuart in the last game, but still effective) who can provide some flexibility. His batting and bowling contributions, together with his fast hands in the field, give him the kind of versatility teams want in key matches. His left-arm spin on English pitches should also be useful in the middle overs.

Bowlers

Piyush Chawla

Taking 3/18 in four overs, Piyush Chawla bowled phenomenally throughout his spell. His control and variations suffocated the middle order of the West Indian side, and he’s going to be very dangerous against any Pakistani side that has historically struggled against leg spin. Given Chawla’s record of form, he is the lead spinner here.

Stuart Binny, while more likely known as an all-rounder these days, has shown how much of a bowler he really is with his 2/17 in the last match. If a more specialist bowler’s role is needed, Varun Aaron could keep his place, even with his expensive last outing (2/40), due to his ability to take early wickets with pace and provide India an attacking option up front.
