Predicting Gujarat Titans’ four overseas players in their playing XI in the IPL 2025

Gujarat Titans have been one of the best teams since their inception in the IPL in 2022. They became only the second team to win the title on their debut season after Rajasthan Royals in 2008. They followed it up with a good season in 2023 where they ended up being the runner ups. They nearly defended their title and did the unthinkable. But things didn’t go well for them in 2024.

Their skipper Hardik Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians and Shubman Gill was named the new skipper. GT couldn’t qualify for the playoffs for the first time. Hence, a lot of releases were made during the mega auction. GT’s strategy at the auction was brilliant and they have built one of the best squads. Their overseas depth consists of more pacers and it could well be their strength.

Here are the four overseas players who might start in Gujarat Titans’ playing XI in the IPL 2025 –

1. Glenn Phillips

Glenn Phillips

Glenn Phillips might have to do the job of David Miller in GT. When Miller was at his prime, he won them the IPL with his good contribution in the 2022 season. Phillips is being brought as his replacement. He can finish the games well, bowl some overs if needed, and be a gun fielder inside the 30-yard circle. GT can also use him in the middle order, allowing Shah Rukh Khan and others to finish the innings.

2. Kagiso Rabada

Kagiso Rabada is one of the lot of pacers GT bought at the IPL auctions 2025. He is likely to start considering his reputation and current form. Rabada can bowl cutters well which might be handy in Ahmedabad. His cross seam might be important in the seaming conditions. While his batting is an addition, Rabada must be able to start sheerly due to his skills as a bowler. He could be the leader of the attack.

3. Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler

Jos Buttler is one of the greatest IPL openers. The English batter had a great peak from 2018 to 2022. Due to injuries and a loss of form, Jos wasn’t able to be at his best in 2023 and 2024. Despite that, he played some match-winning knocks for RR. Injury meant he was released from RR. But GT grabbed him. Buttler’s injury and form is still a concern. But given his pedigree as a T20 batter, Titans would back him.

4. Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan

Rashid Khan is one of the greatest IPL bowlers. He is one of the best bowlers in the world and can take wickets at will by containing runs at the same time. Not to forget, he is one of the best finishers in the world. He is a complete package as a cricketer. He would be an automatic choice in GT’s playing XI despite not having a good season in 2024.
