Predicted Playing XI of India for 2nd ODI Against New Zealand

Predicted Playing XI of India for 2nd ODI Against New Zealand

India will look to strengthen their position in the five-match ODI series when they face New Zealand in the second match at Hnry Stadium, Wellington, on November 7, 2026. The visitors secured a five-wicket victory in the rain-affected opening encounter and currently lead the series 1-0.

Virat Kohli’s fluent 74 and the Indian bowlers’ collective effort helped the team overcome New Zealand’s total of 185. India will now aim to repeat that performance, although team management could consider changes to manage player availability and workload.

Prasidh Krishna has already been ruled out of the series, while Nitish Kumar Reddy was selected only for the first ODI. Mohammed Siraj is also expected to join India A for its second four-day match, which could influence India’s pace-bowling combination.

Here’s India’s Predicted XI for 2nd ODI:

  1. Rohit Sharma:

Rohit is expected to retain his opening position despite being dismissed for a duck in the first ODI. The experienced batter remains an important part of India’s batting plans and will be eager to make a stronger contribution in Wellington. His ability to take on the new-ball bowlers and provide quick runs during the powerplay could help India establish an early advantage.

  1. Shubman Gill (c):

Gill will continue to lead India and open the innings. He scored 37 runs in the series opener and shared a crucial 113-run partnership with Kohli. Although he could not convert his start into a bigger score, his composure at the top was valuable. The Indian captain will look to build another strong opening partnership and lead from the front.

  1. Virat Kohli:

Kohli was India’s standout batter in Auckland, scoring 74 off just 51 deliveries. His innings included 13 fours and a six, helping India recover from Rohit’s early dismissal. The former captain will be confident heading into the second game and will once again be expected to anchor the innings while keeping the scoreboard moving.

  1. Shreyas Iyer:

Iyer is likely to retain his place at No. 4. The right-hander will be expected to provide stability between India’s experienced top order and the lower middle order. His ability to play spin and accelerate against pace makes him an important part of the batting combination.

  1. KL Rahul (wk):

Rahul is expected to continue as India’s wicketkeeper-batter. His experience in the middle order gives the team flexibility, particularly if early wickets fall. He can anchor the innings or increase the scoring rate depending on the match situation.

  1. Naman Dhir:

Dhir could retain his place as a middle-order batter and provide an additional option with the ball if required. His inclusion would give India some flexibility in the playing combination, especially with Nitish Kumar Reddy unavailable after the opening ODI.

  1. Axar Patel:

Axar will be an important part of India’s balance. His left-arm spin can help control the middle overs, while his batting ability provides depth. He could also be promoted if India require a left-handed batter to disrupt New Zealand’s bowling plans.

  1. Anshul Kamboj:

Kamboj impressed in the first ODI, returning figures of 2/22 in 10 overs, including two maidens. His accuracy and ability to maintain pressure make him a strong candidate to retain his place. He will be expected to repeat his disciplined performance.

  1. Gurnoor Brar:

Brar claimed three wickets in the opening match, finishing with 3/44. His ability to generate bounce and break partnerships makes him a valuable option. India could continue with him to maintain continuity in the pace attack.

  1. Arshdeep Singh:

Arshdeep was India’s leading wicket-taker in Auckland, claiming 4/70. His ability to swing the new ball and deliver important breakthroughs makes him a key component of the bowling attack. He will be expected to lead the pace unit once again.

  1. Kuldeep Yadav:

Kuldeep could return to the playing XI to provide India with an attacking spin option alongside Axar. His variations and ability to deceive batters in flight could be useful against New Zealand’s middle order. The left-arm wrist-spinner can also provide crucial breakthroughs when partnerships begin to develop.
