Players with consecutive double centuries in Test Cricket

The English team was left stunned by the comeback that India made in Rajkot. It was the sheer domination from the Indian batting unit that put the visitors on the back foot in the second innings of the Rajkot Test. Yashasvi Jaiswal led the team with his batting heroics as he scored a double century. In this article, we will take a look at Indian players with consecutive double centuries in Test cricket. 

Vinod Kambli

The first Indian player to achieve this unique record was Vinod Kambli. The Mumbaikar scored consecutive double centuries against England and Zimbabwe in 1993. He scored the first double-century at Wankhede Stadium, his home ground. Kambli smashed 224 runs which was a major contribution to India’s victory. He backed up this double-ton with another one against Zimbabwe in Delhi. In Delhi he scored 227 runs and also won the player of the match award for his decisive contribution in India’s win.

Virat Kohli

The former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has also achieved this milestone. He scored two back-to-back double-centuries against Sri Lanka in 2017. Kohli scored his first double century at Nagpur in the second match of the 3-match Test series. His 213-run knock in Nagpur helped India register a massive win by an innings and 239 runs. Both teams reached Delhi for the last match of the series and Kohli made the occasion memorable as the local boy. In Delhi, he scored 243 runs to add another double-century to his account. 

Yashasvi Jaiswal 

The Indian left-handed opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is the latest entry to this list. He has scored two consecutive double centuries in Vizag and Rajkot to mark the beginning of a promising Test career. If his double century in Vizag was scored for India’s revival then this double century at Rajkot will be remembered for India’s domination over the opposition. Jaiswal followed up his 209 runs in Vizag with an unbeaten 214 runs in Rajkot. His batting efforts have put India in a pole position in this crucial Test series.
