With the 2nd T20I coming up in Lahore on May 29, the excitement is building. With the T20 World Cup around the corner, every game now takes on more meaning than a bilateral series. The Men in Green tried out combinations, but now it is tied. Gaddafi Stadium will be in the spotlight to see what occurs. Pakistan has a competitive opponent and will require some of the well-known names to help sway the match on a pitch that will produce high scores and big turn late.
Batters

Salman Agha may not be the most flamboyant name on Pakistan’s batting line-up, but with consistent performances and a calming presence, he is one of their best assets. With 1561 runs in 97 innings and a strike rate nearing 135, Salman is a clever operator, especially in the middle overs. His ability to rotate strike and keep an innings afloat becomes of even greater value when conditions are like that in Lahore, where you need to tick over and pace the innings.
At the top of the order is Mohammad Haris, who is likely to take the game on with great energy and unpredictable intent. Haris, who has only played 15 innings in his T20I career already, has an aggressive approach that is hard to ignore. While he has a highest score of just 41 and an overall strike rate of 129.06, he does not shy away from putting away any half volley, and is not afraid to take chances from ball one.
All-Rounders

Shadab Khan has established himself as Pakistan’s leading T20 all-rounder and for very good reason. He has 2039 runs and 221 wickets in T20s, meaning he can be a match-winner in both batting and bowling situations. He can break partnerships in the middle overs with his bowling and will be able to smack 6s in the late overs with his bat. Shadab is a true all-rounder with exceptional versatility in his game; on a surface that may aid spin bowlers later in a match, Shadab’s leg-spin and googlies could prove pivotal.
Faheem Ashraf provides balance to the lineup and has over 1500 T20 runs in 97 innings and a credibility of being a late-order hitter. He has only taken 7 wickets, but again, Faheem’s biggest assets as a bowler are his ability to control the game in the key overs and, as a batter, to contribute quick runs. On a high-scoring ground, Faheem’s death bowling and late-order hitting performance could also separate winning and chasing.
Bowlers

Hasan Ali is a veteran of this format with an incredible 286 wickets in 202 T20 innings. A wicket-taker who will thrive in the conditions at Lahore – especially if there is movement early on – Hasan is aggressive and takes wickets at opportune times. His best figures of 5/20 show what kind of havoc he can wreak when he is in rhythm. If he can find his line and length early on, the opposing team might be in trouble.
Khushdil Shah may not be a traditional frontline bowler, but he has developed into a useful spin option with 89 wickets in the format. After a recent experience, it again seems like a smart move to add Khushdil with his spin, spinning the ball from a variable bounce, and also spinning on slow pitches. Provided the game goes deep and the pitch is slow, Khushdil will be able to tie batters down with his left-arm spin and open up ways for the team to take wickets.
