Pakistan vs Bangladesh, 1st T20I: 3 Reasons Why Bangladesh Lost to Pakistan

Under the bright lights of Lahore, feeling the hum of the crowd reverberate off the walls of the Gaddafi Stadium, Bangladesh had one priority: chase down a tricky 202 target set by Pakistan. For a time, it felt like they were in the race. Tanzid Hasan strode out and looked like a man on a mission, Litton Das had Google Maps of Lahore dialled into him, and Jaker Ali had even managed to put up a few fireworks of his own. However, the chase fell apart quicker than a cheap lawn chair in a monsoon. By the time the dust settled, Pakistan had romped to a 37-run victory and Bangladesh were left questioning where it had all slipped away from them.

The Middle-Order Meltdown

Bangladesh looked in control for the most part after racing to 100/2. Litton Das was playing like the pitch was his. Then came the now-famous Bangladeshi collapse. They went from 100/2 to 96/6 in the space of 24 balls. The middle order didn’t settle in to hold the innings together but played it like a TikTok reel; short and completely forgettable. Towhid Hridoy crawled to 17 from 22 balls and didn’t notice that the required rate was well beyond 11 an over. Shamim and Rishad turned up and turned into the night in the blink of an eye. Rather than rotating and tying down the bowling, the Bangladesh batters were preoccupied with their impatience, and just like that, they lost substantial momentum in the chase.

Shadab Khan’s All-Round Heist

If this were a PSL final, Shadab Khan would have been taken off the field for stealing. First, he gives an innings-saving 48 off 25 – coming in at 118/4 and taking it to 201/7 with number of slaps that looked like slaps to the feel of Bangladesh’s rhythm – just as they would have thought that they had Pakistan back to a reasonable position, Shadab comes in with the bat, shifts momentum, and walks away with their bowlers figures. He is not done yet, then he comes in with the ball and takes a set Litton Das down at 100/3 – at a point when it seemed like the match was still completely in the balance – and then catches Shoriful at the boundary to round it off.

Loose Ends in the Field and With the Ball

Let’s be straight up—Bangladesh didn’t give themselves much help. After putting Pakistan at 5/2 in the second over, they let Pakistan recover, gather momentum, and then explode. Rishad Hossain was horrendous with his bowling, yielding 55 runs from only four overs—more runs than half of the Bangladesh lineup scored with the bat. There were also sloppy misfields, ineffective bowling changes, and not one moment of control in the death overs. The spinners weren’t aggressive, the pacers were uncrafty, and the whole fielding unit looked like it would rather be anywhere else. This was not merely a tactical collapse, it was a breakdown of systems.

All in all, Bangladesh followed the script they’re already familiar with—flashes of promise countered by disappointing execution. They got the first two wickets. They got Litton going in full throttle. However, what they lacked in the middle overs was a backbone, a killer instinct in the field, and the ability to weather Pakistan’s counterpunches. Pakistan, however, played like a team that knows how to get it done in their backyard—with flair, firepower, and just a little drama. If Bangladesh wants to level the series, they don’t just need to show up with energy this time, they also need clarity, consistency, and one solid plan that does not collapse like a house of cards.
