
Former Indian all-rounder Yusuf Pathan turns 43 years old on Monday, November 17. He made his international debut in the dramatic 2007 T20 World Cup final against Pakistan. He replaced Virender Sehwag and scored an eight-ball 15 and bowled one over for five runs.
Yusuf was also a part of the Indian team that won the 2011 ODI World Cup. During his career, the spin-bowling all-rounder played 57 ODIs, scoring 810 runs at an average of 27 and a strike rate of 113.61. In T20Is, he scored 236 runs from 18 innings at an average of 18.15 and a strike rate of 146.59. He also bagged 33 and 13 wickets in ODIs and T20Is, respectively.
The year 2010 was memorable for Yusuf, both in international cricket as well as in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He scored 281 runs in eight innings at an average of 46.83 in ODI cricket in 2010. That year in the IPL, Yusuf smashed a 37-ball century against Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai.
He subsequently joined Kolkata Knight Riders and won the IPL in 2012 and 2014. Yusuf played 174 matches in the cash-rich league, amassing 3204 runs at an average of 29.13 and a strike rate of 142.98.
On February 26, 2021, Yusuf announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. In his retirement statement, he said, “The time has come today for me to put a full stop to this innings of my life. I officially announce retirement from all forms of the game”.
In recent years, he has been very active in Legends League tournaments. He has been scoring runs for fun around the world and also bowling useful overs for his teams.
