OTD | Pakistan's leg-spinning allrounder Shadab Khan was born in 1998

Shadab Khan has turned 25 today. Pakistan’s limited overs format Vice Captain has travelled a long way to make his place in the team. Over the years he has become a very important part of the team. He is one of the most crucial players in the core that has emerged under the leadership of Babar Azam.

Shadab was an exciting talent coming through the age categories. His talent got wings at the National Cricket Academy, Lahore. He made his place in the 2016 U19 World Cup squad. His performance at the U19 World Cup in Bangladesh gave him more recognition as he picked up 11 wickets in 6 matches at an impressive average of 19, finishing the tournament as the leading wicket-taker. His U19 World Cup performance helped Islamabad United pick him up in the Pakistan Super League. He did not prove them wrong and made some noteworthy contributions to his franchise.

He got his first chance to don the Pakistan jersey in 2017 jersey in 2017 when he was first selected in the team for an away tour to the Caribbean. He made his international debut in the T20 series against West Indies. Subsequently, he also got his chance in the ODI and Test format.

He made some valuable contributions in the glorious campaign in the 2017 Champions Trophy in England. His abilities with the bat have also proved to be handy for Pakistan. He’s a hard-hitting batsman in the lower order.

Shadab Khan has been going through a lean patch recently as he had a poor Asia Cup. But his role in the upcoming World Cup would be very crucial as he’s a spinner who likes to give a loop to his deliveries. His fearless attitude as a leg spinner will help him on the turning tracks of Chennai and Lucknow. Pakistan would be hoping that he gets his rhythm very soon. He is of utmost importance to Babar Azam, not just with the ball but also with the bat. The complexion of the limited-overs format has changed. Teams will go for huge totals on batting-friendly wickets in India. An in-form Shadab Khan will help the top order to bat fearlessly as he can score some quick runs in slog overs. If Pakistan has to end their drought in this World Cup then Shadab Khan’s role will be very crucial.
