OTD | New Zealand star fast bowler Lockie Ferguson was born in 1991

On this day, back in 1991, New Zealand star cricketer Lockie Ferguson was born. He is commonly known for his searing pace and lethal bouncers, which make him one of the best of the world’s fastest bowlers to have ever played the game. The star cricketer played a great role in guiding his side to the finals of the 2019 ODI World Cup but hosts England outclassed them in the thrilling super over.

The star cricketer made his ODI debut back in November 2016 in the series against Australia, while he got the chance to make his T20I debut on June 3, 2017, against the Bangladesh side. Notably, the star cricketer had scalped two wickets in the first two balls and became the only second player to do so in the history of the marquee event. Following the same, he got the chance to play for Pakistan in November 2017.

The great pacer was in great form in 2018 and 2019, which allowed him to place himself in the final squad of the 2019 World Cup, which took place in England. However, he took his 50th wicket in the clash against Bangladesh. However, following the marquee event, he was named the rising star of the squad by the Apex Cricket Council. He was also featured on teams in the tournament.

Meanwhile, Ferguson also got the chance to lead the side in the third match of the ODI series against Bangladesh on September 2, 2023, in the absence of regular skipper Kane Williamson and stand-in skipper Tom Latham.

Lockie Ferguson made his IPL debut for the Rising Pune Supergiants in 2017, while he played for KKR in 2018 and 2019 after being released by RPS at the end of the edition. However, the great seamer has been a part of the Gujarat Titans since 2022 and played a great role in guiding his side to win the title in 2022 while ending up as the first runner-up in 2023.
