OTD Matthew Wade was born in 1987

Matthew Wade was born on December 26 in 1987, in Hobart. He will turn 38 this year and is still playing in the Big Bash League for the Hobart Hurricanes. Wade was a part of the Hurricanes squad that won the last edition of the BBL after defeating the Sydney Thunder in the final. In the final game, Wade played a knock of 32 runs off 17 deliveries.

In October 2024, Wade retired from international cricket and moved his way into coaching. He is the assistant coach of the Gujarat Titans franchise in the IPL. He has also had a stint with the Australia A side as an assistant coach in the Caribbean.

Wade made his Test debut for Australia in April 2012 against the West Indies. He last played a Test match for Australia in 2021 and featured in 36 Test matches. He scored 1613 runs at an average of 29.87 and hit four centuries.

In ODIs, he made 1867 runs in 97 games at an average of 26.29 and a strike rate of 81.59. His ODI debut happened against India in February 2012, and he hit one century and 11 half-centuries.

Wade played his first T20I game against the Proteas in 2011. He last played his T20I game against India during the T20 World Cup 2024. Wade scored 1202 runs at an average of 26.13 and a strike rate of 134.15. He made three half-centuries in T20Is.

Wade played for the Delhi Capitals and the Titans in the IPL. He played a total of 15 matches in the IPL and scored 183 runs in 14 innings at a strike rate of 103.38. In the BBL, he has played for the Melbourne Stars, Melbourne Renegades, and the Hurricanes. He has made 2853 runs in 111 games at an average of 30.35 and a strike rate of 140.95. Wade was a part of the team that won the T20 World Cup in 2021.
