OTD: Left-arm spinner Mudhsuden Singh Panesar, known as Monty was born today in 1982

On this day, back in 1984, England star cricketer Monty Panesar was born. Notably, the great spinner has taken the side at the epitome of the level owing to his huge success in the international career. Born in Luton to Indian parents, the great player is a Sikh and wears a black Pakta while practicing and training in the game, and his look is greatly admired by his fans.

The left-arm spinner made his Test debut back in 2006 against India in Nagpur, while he made his ODI debut for England back in 2007. Notably, his first Test wicket was Master Blaster Sachin Tendulkar’s. He also bowled great players Rahul Dravid and Mohammad Kaif. Monty took his first five-wicket haul against Sri Lanka at Trent Bridge. Meanwhile, the legendary cricketer became the first spinner to score 10 wickets in the game during the third Test match against the West Indies on June 11, 2007. He took his 100th Test wicket against New Zealand on May 25, 2008, at Old Trafford.

Speaking about his stint in English County Cricket, the great player recently played for Northamptonshire in 2016, was part of Sussex from 2010 to 2013, and played for Essex from 2013 to 2015.

The star cricketer’s stint for Sussex County Cricket Club had helped him get a place in the squad for the 2010–2011 Ashes series. However, after scalping 69 wickets back in 2011, the star player placed himself in the startling XI of the team for the series against Pakistan, which took place in UAE.

Meanwhile, Monty Panesar played his last game for England in 2016, and here he opened up about his mental illness and how medication had helped him overcome paranoia and anxiety after retiring from international cricket. The star bowler released his autobiography, ‘Monty Panesar: The Full Monty, for White Owl Books’ in May 2019.
