OTD | India completed their 4-1 home victory over England in their tour of 2024

The England tour of India in 2024 saw the hype of Bazball ending as India won the series by 4-1.  The last game of the five-match series between India and England was played at Dharamshala. However, before the last game of the series, India had won the series by 3-1. In the fifth test, India invited England to bat first on the green surface of Dharamshala. England managed to score 218 runs, and Zak Crawley scored 79 runs. While other batters failed to reach 50 run marks, opener Zak Crawley was the only batter to get beyond 50 run marks.

In reply, Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma didn’t hold back as they had a good start. India had a 104-run partnership for the first wicket before Yashasvi Jaiswal fell to Shoaib Bashir on 57 runs. Later, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill both went on to score centuries, and Devdutt Paddikkal and Sarfaraz Khan stood strong to help India reach 477 runs on the scoreboard.

As the second innings started, England again found themselves in the struggle. England’s top-order batters failed to score against Ravichandran Ashwin’s bowling. But Joe Root stood up in a difficult situation and scored 84 runs before getting out to Kuldeep Yadav. England couldn’t take the lead in the second innings as they managed to score 195 runs, letting spinners pick wickets. Ravichandran Ashwin picked his five-wicket haul in his 100th test game for India. India won the test match by innings and 64 runs. India got to bat only once in the test match.

By the time the series ended, England’s so-called ‘bazball’ term came to an end in India as India defeated England and won the series 4-1. England won 18 test matches before touring India. The Bazball era was a much-talked-about topic before and in between the series. After losing both Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum, they faced criticism for losing the series, which halted the winning momentum.
