OTD| In 2003 Brian Lara scored his maiden Test century on his home ground

On this day, back in 2003, West Indies star cricketer Brian Lara went on to hammer his maiden Test hundred during Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad in the second Test match against Australia. However, his innings went in vain, as Australia ended up winning the game by 118 runs. The star cricketer hammered 122 runs from 208 balls, featuring 13 fours and a six, but could not save his side from the huge loss.

Speaking about the game here, Australia posted a huge target of 576/4 in the first inning as Ricky Ponting went on to score 206 runs while Darren Lahmann and Adam Gilchrist were able to pile up 160 and 101 runs, respectively, which helped them post the great total.

Meanwhile, during the chase, the Windies were able to pile up 408 runs after the first inning. Star batter Daren Ganga made 117 runs from 238 balls, featuring 17 fours and one six, while Brian Lara made 91 runs from 120 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes. In addition, star all-rounder Marlon Samuels also made 68 runs to help the Windies reach near the total.

However, Australia posted 238/3 in the second inning as Matthew Hayden was able to get the great tonne while Ricky Ponting and Darren Lehmann made 45 and 66 runs, respectively, to help Australia stand in a strong position after the end of the second inning.

Meanwhile, during the chase, the Windies failed to get the start as Wavell Hinds made 35 runs while Devon Smith and Daren Ganga were out for just 0 and 2 runs, respectively. In addition, Brian Lara made 122 runs from 208 balls on his first home ground to give some fight against tough Aussies, but he also went on to lose his wicket at the crucial moment, which made his side lose the second Test game. Furthermore, the West Indies ended up losing the four matches of the Test series by 1-3.
