OTD Fakhar Zaman became first Pakistan player to hit double century in ODIs

On July 20, 2018, a historic day for Pakistan cricket, as Fakhar Zaman became the first Pakistani player to score a double century in One-Day Internationals (ODIs). The left-handed opener achieved the remarkable feat against Zimbabwe in the fourth ODI in Bulawayo, finishing unbeaten on 210 off just 156 deliveries.

Zaman’s innings was a perfect blend of timing and aggression. His knock included 24 fours and five sixes, showcasing his ability to build a long innings while keeping the scoreboard ticking at a rapid pace. It was a performance that etched his name into the record books and firmly established him as one of Pakistan’s premier white-ball batters.

Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed won the toss and elected to bat first. Zaman opened the innings alongside Imam-ul-Haq, and the duo put on a record-breaking 304-run opening stand. Imam contributed a well-crafted 113 off 122 balls. Later, Asif Ali added a quickfire 50* off just 22 balls, helping Pakistan post a massive total of 399/1 in their 50 overs, their highest ODI total so far.

Among Zimbabwe’s bowlers, Richard Ngarava conceded 65 runs in seven overs at an economy of 9.28, while Tendai Chisoro was the most economical, giving away 56 runs in his 10 overs at 5.6.

In reply, Zimbabwe were completely outplayed and bundled out for just 155 runs. Donald Tiripano top-scored with 44, while the rest of the batting lineup crumbled under pressure. For Pakistan, the all-rounder Shadab Khan was the pick of the bowlers, claiming four wickets for 28 runs in 8.4 overs.

Zaman’s historic knock not only gave Pakistan a massive win by 244 runs but also crowned him as the highest run-scorer in the five-match series. He scored 515 runs in five innings, remaining not out in three of them, with a staggering average of 257.50. His tally included two centuries and two half-centuries, making it one of the most dominant batting displays in a bilateral ODI series. Zaman’s 210* remains a benchmark for Pakistan in ODI cricket, a symbol of dominance in the country’s white-ball approach.
