On this day, back in 2010, the England cricket team defeated the Australian side to win their first ever T20 World Cup, which took place in Bridgetown. This was the moment when the English side won their first world title in cricket. Notably, they were picked out as the dark horses to win the marquee event, and after a stuttering, rain-affected start to the group stages, the English side went on to hit their stride superbly in the Super Eights, winning all their games in that stage, followed by a great win over Sri Lanka in the semi-final game.
Speaking about the final game here, it was English captain Paul Collingwood who won the toss and invited the Australian side to bat first in the game. Notably, after opting to bat first, the Australian side was just able to make 147/6 in the given 20 overs. The side had an awful start as Shane Watson departed for just two runs while David Warner was run out for two runs. Following him, Australia skipper Michael Clarke made 27 runs, while Brad Haddin departed for just one run. Meanwhile, David Hussey got 59 runs and Cameron White made 30 runs, which helped them post a decent total on the board.
However, during the chase, English star opening batter Michael Lumb made two runs while wicketkeeper batter Craig Kieswetter made 63 runs from 49 balls, featuring seven fours and two sixes. In addition, Kevin Pietersen made 47 runs on 31 balls from four fours and a six. Meanwhile, English skipper Collingwood made 12 runs, and star cricketer Eoin Morgan made an unbeaten 15 runs to help his side chase down the total with 18 balls to spare.
Meanwhile, the Jos Buttler-led English side was the champions of the T20 World Cup 2022, and once again, they will be looking to defend their title in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, which is slated to take place on June 2 in the West Indies and the USA.
