The history of English cricket is something we all have witnessed for a long time and there is no doubt that the nation who gave us the game has given us some great players as well. One of the biggest legends of England cricket was swashbuckling all-rounder Ian Botham who is considered one of the pioneers of the game. He was arguably one of the top all-rounders of his era that we all have come across.
The record of Ian Botham is phenomenal as well where he has scored over 7000 runs and has taken over 500 wickets. It has been a legendary career for Botham who brutally attacked every bowling attack with the bat and delivered game-changing spells with the ball. He was always one of the most important players of English cricket which all of us need to celebrate for the impact and contribution he has made to the game.
Botham breaks the Test record on this day
The day 21st August 1986 was one of the greatest days for the star all-rounder. We all know that Botham was destructive with the bat, but we also must not forget how lethal of a wicket-taker he was with the ball. This was also the moment when Botham broke the Test record to become the highest wicket-taker in Test matches against New Zealand. Botham bowled another great spell with the ball taking 3 wickets against New Zealand. This took Botham to 357 Test wickets as he overtook Dennis Lillee to become the highest Test wicket-taker.
This was the moment Botham became one of the most legendary figures in international cricket with his wonderful performances. Ian Botham was one of the greatest all-rounders to ever play the game where he could perform with both bat and ball and this made him one of the biggest match-winners to ever play the game. Though he is no longer holding the record for the most Test wickets he still has a legacy which will never be forgotten.
