1. Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, the modern master, tops the list. He has recently achieved this milestone by surpassing his cricketing idol, Sachin Tendulkar. Virat Kohli has amassed 711 runs so far in the 2023 ODI World Cup. He has scored at an unbelievable average of 101.57 in the 10 matches in this World Cup. With the all-important final still to be played, we can expect him to score more runs in this tournament. Virat Kohli also left Sachin Tendulkar behind in terms of number of centuries in the One-Day format in this tournament. He became the first cricketer to score 50 centuries in this format of white-ball cricket. 

2. Sachin Tendulkar

Sachin Tendulkar held this record for a long time which he made in the 2003 World Cup in South Africa. In that edition, India reached the finals and Sachin Tendulkar’s contributions with the bat played a massive role in their journey to the summit clash. Tendulkar added 673 runs in 11 matches and scored with an average of 61.18. Tendulkar crossed the 50-run mark 7 times in this tournament including a century. He played some memorable innings throughout the tournament in high-octane encounters which helped Team India cruise through to the finals. 

3. Matthew Hayden

The former Australian opener is 3rd on this list with 659 runs that he made in the 2007 World Cup. Australia clinched this World Cup, winning 3 in a row, and Hayden was instrumental in their campaign at the top of the batting order. Matthew Hayden played 10 matches and scored these many runs at an astonishing average of 73.22. He scored 3 centuries and one half-century. He guided Australia to the fourth World Cup capping off a golden era of Australian dominance in world cricket.
