One-day World Cup is among the most anticipated events in Cricket history as this is the tournament that happens every four years. The tournament was first played in the year 1975 and was won by the formidable West Indies side. To date, there have been 12 editions of the World Cup which have been played in several parts of the world.
The South African side is among the side who have competed in all the editions of the World Cup but have never managed to win to get their hands on the World Trophy so far. The team has more often than not entered the tournament as the firm’s favorites but have never gone on to win the title even once. Let’s have a look at the top three best bowling figures from the South African players;
3. 5/18 – Andrew Hall vs England at Bridgetown in 2007
This is among the best possible spells from any South African bowler thus far in the history of the game. Andrew Hall was among the all-rounders who majorly were not that much regarded for the skills that he possessed. In simple words, he was among the most underrated all-rounders going around that time.
It was only in the 2007 edition of the World Cup that Hall registered the best bowling figures for any South African player when he went on to register a tremendous bowling figure of 5/18 against a formidable England side.
2. 5/21 – Lance Klusener vs Kenya at Amstelveen in 1999
Lance Klusener, is arguably, one of the best white ball all-rounders that the world had ever seen. Klusener was not only handy with the bat but was really economical with the ball as well. Batting lower down the order with the striking ability that he had certainly set him apart from the rest of the players.
Klusener recorded one of the best bowling figures of their career when recorded a figure of 5/21 against the Kenya team in the 1999 edition of the World Cup.
1. 5/36 – Shaun Pollock vs Australia at Birmingham in 1999
The 1999 edition of the World Cup was certainly among the best World Cup editions for the South African team as the team were among the favorites to win the Cup after the league stage. But then in the semi-final, in a twisting turn of events the team eventually had to lose the match.
It was in this match, that Shaun Pollock registered his best figure in the World Cup when he registered a figure of 5/36 in the match.
