Mahmudullah has been one of the best middle-order batters for Bangladesh in the last decade or so. His performances on crucial occasions have defined his legacy as an all-time great for Bangladesh Cricket. These are the batting performances that reflect the importance of Mahmudullah in the Bangladesh batting unit. He achieved his best batting figures in international cricket during the 2015 ODI World Cup when he scored an unbeaten 128 runs against New Zealand in the group stage. When Mahmudullah walked into bat his team was in a spot of bother with two early dismissals but the experienced batter led his team out of the crisis. Courtesy of his knock Bangladesh posted a formidable total of 288 runs on the board at the end of the first innings.

Here is another World Cup performance from Mahmudullah to consolidate his credentials as a crisis man for Bangladesh. South Africa and Bangladesh locked horns in a group-stage encounter in the 2023 ODI World Cup. The match ended in a crushing defeat for Bangladesh but Mahmudullah stood apart with his century to keep his team alive in the contest. He made 111 runs but was not enough to carry his team across the finishing line.

One simply cannot look beyond Mahmudullah’s World Cup performances because he has got a lot of them in his resume. In the 2015 World Cup he smashed another century but this time against England. In the first innings the experienced middle-order batter took charge of the proceedings and helped his team transcend the 250-run mark. Eventually, Bangladesh ended up with 275 runs in the first innings and Mahmudullah had a huge share of that total to his name. The English team could not chase the target in the second innings losing the match by a narrow margin of 15 runs.
