Kolkata Knight Riders’ top 3 contenders to win the purple cap in IPL 2024

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) have made a great start to their Indian Premier League (IPL) season. With a thrilling victory against Sunrisers Hyderabad, the 2-time champions have proved that they have a formidable side. Kolkata’s bowling attack was tested in their season opener but they kept their nerves to cruise through to victory.

Knight Riders have a potent bowling attack with multiple young stars and some impressive homegrown talents. The franchise will rely heavily on the bowlers and the bowling unit has to respond if KKR want to add a third trophy to their cabinet. Let us take a look at the top 3 contenders from Kolkata who can win the purple cap in IPL 2024.

1. Sunil Narine

The veteran West Indian is still bowling at his best. Sunil Narine bowled outstandingly well in the first match and it was his spell that made a difference for Kolkata Knight Riders. Looking at the way he was successful in deceiving the batters, this might be the season where Narine will don the purple cap. He has been the backbone of KKR’s bowling attack for more than a decade and is still going strong. He is surely one of the contenders to emerge as the highest wicket-taker in IPL 2024

2. Mitchell Starc

Mitchell Starc made his first IPL appearance in eight seasons when he played against Sunrisers Hyderabad. It was an expensive outing for him and contrary to what fans would have expected. He is coming into this season as the most expensive player in the history of the league and there is a pressure of price tag. However, Starc is an experienced player and knows how to turn things around. A bowler of his calibre will always be a contender for the purple cap.

3. Harshit Rana

A young uncapped fast bowler from Delhi, Harshit Rana, impressed everyone with his bowling against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He picked up 3 wickets and bowled the last over where he did the tough task of defending 13 runs. In the very first match of the season, he has shown that he can be the long-term option for the franchise. It augurs well for Kolkata that a young uncapped bowler is taking the responsibility and if he continues the same way he can also top the wicket-taking charts.
