IPL 2025: Predicting PBKS’ Playing XI for their clash against DC

The in-form Punjab Kings (PBKS) will take on the Delhi Capitals in the ongoing IPL 2025’s 66th game. The game will be played at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium on Saturday, May 24, at 7:30 PM (IST). PBKS have already qualified for the playoffs of the tournament, being in third place in the tournament standings.

They have won eight games while losing only three, alongside a ‘no-result’ game in their 12 games so far. They currently have 17 points to their name, and a win in this game against DC will propel them to the top spot in the points tally. They are coming off three consecutive wins in their last three games, following a defeat and a ‘no-result’ game.

With that said, here we’ll have a look at the predicted playing XI of the Punjab Kings for their next IPL 2025 clash against Delhi Capitals.

Openers

Priyansh Arya

The PBKS management might opt to go with the same opening pair of the young batter Priyansh Arya and star wicketkeeper-batter Prabhsimran Singh. Both batters have been in a brilliant run of form with the bat in the tournament’s current season. Prabhsimran is currently the leading run-scorer, with 458 runs in 12 innings, with an average of 38.16, hitting four half-centuries.

On the other hand, the young Southpaw Priyansh Arya has aggregated 356 runs in 12 innings, with a sensational batting strike rate of 190.37, hitting a century and a half-century. So, the opening pair will look unchanged for PBKS in this game against DC.

Middle-Order

Nehal Wadhera

The middle order of the Punjab Kings will start with the young Aussie batter Mitchell Owen; however, he failed to perform in the last game against RR. But he is capable of making a strong comeback, and management might bank on him for another game to bat at number three. He will be followed by the star-in-form batter Nehal Wadhera.

Nehal Wadhera smashed 70 runs off just 37 balls, with five fours and five sixes. Later in the middle order, skipper Shreyas Iyer will be there to bat at number five, who scored a crucial 30 runs off 25 balls, with five fours. Shashank Singh at number six will also be an amazing option for PBKS; he smashed a fiery knock of 59 runs off just 30 balls, with five fours and three sixes, with an amazing batting strike rate of 196.66 against RR.

All-Rounder

Azmatullah Omarzai

Star Afghanistan all-rounder Azmatullah Omarzai might be picked as a specialist all-rounder in their playing XI for the next game against DC. He could be a crucial asset with the bat, hitting 21 runs off just 9 balls, with three fours and a six in the last over against RR.

Apart from this, he also scalped 2 wickets with the ball for his side in the second innings, playing a vital role in Punjab Kings’ narrow 10-run win to accelerate their campaign to the playoffs.

Bowlers

Marco Jansen

The bowling attack of the Kings is expected to include three out-and-out pacers, in the likes of Marco Jansen, Xavier Bartlett, and Arshdeep Singh. Jansen scalped 2 wickets in the last game against RR. He, alongside Arshdeep, could be a big threat to the opponent batters, especially in the first six overs of the innings.

This pace trio will be accompanied by two specialist spinners, Harpreet Brar and Yuzvendra Chahal. One of these two spinners might be picked as an impact player in the playing XI, replacing a specialist batter or vice versa. Harpreet Brar bowled an amazing spell against RR in the previous game, scalping 3 wickets at just 22 runs in his 4 overs. He also won the ‘Player of the  Match’ award for helping PBKS win the game by 10 runs.
