IPL 2025: Predicting MI’s Playing XI for the eliminator clash against GT

The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians, will take on the IPL 2022 champions, Gujarat Titans, in the eliminator clash of the ongoing IPL 2025. The game will be played at the Maharaja Yadvendra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, New Chandigarh. It is going to be a do-or-die clash for both teams to stay alive in contention for qualification to the tournament’s summit clash. 

Mumbai Indians made a stunning comeback in the tournament’s league stage after a shaky start at the beginning of the tournament. They finished in the fourth spot on the tournament’s points table, at the end of the league stage, with eight wins and six defeats in their 14 league matches. 

With that said, here we’ll have a look at the predicted playing XI of the Mumbai Indians for their upcoming eliminator clash against the Gujarat Titans. 

Openers  

The opening pair of the Mumbai Indians will include the star wicketkeeper-batter Ryan Rickelton and the former skipper, Rohit Sharma. The duo provided a quick start of 45 runs in just 5.1 overs in the previous game against PBKS. Rickelton scored 27 runs off 20 balls, with five fours. 

Besides him, Rohit also scored 24 runs off 21 balls, with two fours and a six. So, the Rohit-Rickelton duo will be a perfect fit to open the innings for MI in the next game against the Gujarat Titans. 

Middle-Order  

The middle order of the Mumbai Indians will start with the star in-form batter Suryakumar Yadav at number three. He played a crucial knock of 57 runs off 39 balls, with six fours and two sixes. However, his knock went in vain as MI eventually lost the game by 7 wickets. 

Suryakumar Yadav will be followed by Tilak Varma at number, who might score some impactful runs in the middle order. Later in the middle-order, Will Jacks and Naman Dhir will also be there to bat at numbers five and six. They might score some crucial runs in the death overs to help MI post a big total on the board.

All-Rounders  

The MI management is expected to field a pair of spin and pace bowling all-rounders, including the skipper Hardik Pandya and star Kiwi all-rounder Mitchell Santner. Pandya scored 26 runs off just 15 balls, with two fours and two sixes in the last game against PBKS. Besides that, he can also provide an extra pace-bowling option while bowling. 

Alongside Hardik, spin-bowling all-rounder Mitchell Santner will also be there to make an impact, both with the bat and the ball. He scalped 2 wickets in the previous game against PBKS amidst a poor performance of other MI bowlers. 

Bowlers  

Having Will Jacks and Mitchell Santner as the spin-bowling options, the core bowling attack of the Mumbai Indians might include the three out-and-out pacers, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, and the star pace spearhead, Jasprit Bumrah. Chahar and Boult could leave a big impact in the powerplay phase, followed by an attack by Jasprit Bumrah as a first-change bowler. 

Bumrah also bowled the most economical spell for MI in the last game, scalping a wicket at just 23 runs in his four overs. This pace trio might be accompanied by another young pacer, Ashwani Kumar; he might be brought in as an impact player, replacing Rohit Sharma or vice-versa.
