IPL 2025: 3 reasons why LSG lost to RCB

IPL 2025: 3 reasons why LSG lost to RCB

Lucknow Super Giants ended their season with a loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru at home. Rishabh Pant scored a brilliant ton and helped his side post 228 runs on the board. In reply, Virat Kohli’s 54 and Jitesh Sharma unbeaten 85 helped RCB win the game with six wickets and an over to spare.

It has been a season to forget for LSG who had spent a huge head of the campaign. Pant was purchased for INR 27 Crores which made him the costliest pick ever. At various points in the season, the likes of Mitchell Marsh and Nicholas Pooran played a pivotal part with the bat. In the bowling department, Digvesh Rathi emerged as the best find of the season.

Here are the three reasons why LSG lost to RCB

3. Falling at least 15 runs short

With the kind of batting depth that RCB has, a total of 227 was never going to be enough. Matthew Breetzke playing his first game of the season managed to score just 14 runs with the bat. Despite the quickfire fifty by Marsh and century from Pant, the target of 228 was never going to bother RCB on what was a great track for batting.

2. bad bowling on display

William O’Rourke bowled four overs for 74 runs and picked just two wickets from the game. Digvesh Rathi and Avesh Khan who had delivered in the previous few games failed to pick wickets. LSG who had been one of the decent bowling sides this year fell apart when RCB began to attack them with the bat. Ravi Bishnoi also failed to get game time in the latter half of the season while Prince Yadav who had impressed with his bowling was benched.

1.  Rishabh Pant’s lack of leadership

One of the key features of LSG’s failure this season has been the failed captaincy of Pant. Yet again in the final game against RCB, the 27-year-old failed to ring in the changes with the ball as well as on the field. Pant persisted with William O Rourke despite the bowler getting hit for a few runs. The likes of M Siddharth or Shardul Thakur could have been tried just for the final match of the season.
