IPL 2025: 3 reasons behind Rajasthan Royals (RR) poor performance in the ongoing season

IPL 2025: 3 reasons behind Rajasthan Royals (RR) poor performance in the ongoing season

The Rajasthan Royals become the second team after five-time IPL Champions Chennai Super Kings to get knocked out of the tournament. The inaugural champion currently stands at the eighth spot and just registered three wins and suffered nine defeats in the marquee event.

The side’s recent loss came against defending champion KKR by just one run in the recent outing, which knocked them out of the cash-rich league. The fans have expected the side to give a better show in this edition after their mega-auction. However, they failed to live up to the expectations and faltered badly in this ongoing edition.

1. Flop middle-order batters

The sides didn’t have any in-form middle-order batters. Skipper Riyan Parag seems inconsistent throughout the campaign. In addition, Dhruv Jurel wasn’t up to the mark this time. In addition, West Indies power hitter Shimron Hetmyer, who was great in 2024, failed to replicate his success in this edition. This flop batting show of the team makes them lose the matches by big margins.

2. The absence of genuine all-rounders

The side didn’t see any genuine all-rounders in the team. The rest of the team has stellar all-rounders who have been putting who with both bat and ball. The side only had the presence of Sri Lankan star Wanindu Hasaranga, who also wasn’t in form. The presence of genuine all-rounders in this edition might have changed things for the IPL 2008 champions. This absence of the all-rounders put a big pressure on the rest of the batters and bowlers.

3. Inconsistent bowling performance

Rajasthan Royals’ inconsistent bowling performance was witnessed since the first game of this edition when SRH belted them in their opening match. Star pacer Jofra Archer, who was expected to make an impression, fell badly in the Indian conditions despite having vast experience on these pitches. In addition, Hasaranga and Sandeep Sharma failed to live up to the expectations. The side’s decision to release star spinner Yuzvendra Chahal fired them back this time.
