IPL 2024: Predicting Mumbai Indians’ Playing XI for their clash against Lucknow Super Giants

In the 48th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League 2024, Lucknow Super Giants will take on Mumbai Indians at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. The game has a lot of importance for both teams as it might shape their future in the ongoing season.

LSG, facing turmoil due to inconsistent performances, will be keen to continue their dominance over Mumbai Indians. On the other hand, five-time champions will also be looking to put their best foot forward to win the game.

A win here will help their prospects to qualify for the playoffs and a loss might virtually eliminate them from the tournament. So, in today’s article, we will predict the playing XI for Mumbai Indians for their much-important clash against LSG.

Top Order:

Ishan Kishan

The top order will comprise wicketkeeper batter Ishan Kishan, India skipper Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav. The top three batters will need to step up as they have been the backbone of MI’s batting lineup.

Rohit, who will be celebrating his 37th birthday, will be keen to continue scoring runs. In the last two games, he has failed to impress with the bat and has attracted a lot of questions. On the other hand, Kishan will also be keen to continue his dream run as he is the second-highest run-getter in the team.

Meanwhile, Sky has been a concern for Mumbai Indians. After missing some initial games due to injury, he made a resounding comeback with two match-winning knocks. However, he is having an off-season where either he scores match-winning runs or dramatically fails to put up a show. At Ekana his performance will decide so many things.

Middle Order:

Tilak Varma

Tilak Varma has been the most consistent batter in Mumbai India’s batting lineup. He has smashed runs in crucial run chases but failed to get support from another end. Mumbai will be hoping for his red-hot form to flourish in Ekana on Tuesday.

The next on the list will be skipper Hardik Pandya. After having some below-par matches in the initial phase of the league Pandya has shown glimpses of his batting powers. A consistent performance with a good strike rate will be in demand from him.

Next in the lineup will be young uncapped Indian batter Nehal Wadhera. Despite showing promise last season he had a late start in the ongoing season. However, in limited opportunities, he has been phenomenal with the bat and has scored runs with a strike rate of more than 145.

Another middle-order batter will be Tim David. The big man from Australia has failed poorly in the ongoing season. Apart from one good knock he failed with the bat, bowl and field completely. In the absence of a good replacement, David will be in the XI despite not deserving it.

Lower Order:

Jasprit Bumrah

This has to be the weakest part of the Mumbai Indians lineup. In the bowling department the team lacks support for Jasprit Bumrah which has hindered their journey.

However, at number 8 Afghani allrounder Mohammad Nabi will play. He has been able to play small cameos with the bat but has failed to stop runs in the middle overs as a primary spin bowler. The team will be hoping for some bowling spells full of wickets to succeed.

The next spinner is Piyush Chawla. The most experienced bowler in the Mumbai Indian bowling lineup has failed to replicate his last year’s performance so far. His below-par performance has been a headache for the team which they will be keen to address as soon as possible.

Going ahead the next pacer will be Luke Wood. The English pacer joined the team as a replacement with a lot of expectations. He also failed to put up a show by becoming MI’s worst bowler in terms of economy in the last two games.

The only Mi bowler who has been phenomenal in the ongoing season is none other than Jasprit Bumrah. He has clinched around 14 wickets in nine games with an amazing economy rate of 6.64 and an average of 17.67. If someone steps up and supports him he will surely help MI to get back on track.

Here is the predicted playing XI:

  1. Rohit Sharma
  2. Ishan Kishan (WK)
  3. Tilak Varma
  4. Nehal Wadhera
  5. Hardik Pandya (C)
  6. Tim David
  7. Mohammad Nabi
  8. Piyush Chawla
  9. Luke Wood
  10. Jasprit Bumrah
  11. Nuwan Tushara
  12. Suryakumar Yadav (Impact sub)
