The 28th match of IPL 2024 scheduled to take place at Eden Gardens will be a top-of-the-table clash as Kolkata Knight Riders will take on the Lucknow Super Giants. Both teams have been on the top of their game so far in the tournament and are sitting at the 2nd and 3rd spot respectively.
Both teams have lost one match each out of the 4 matches they have played so far. If we talk about LSG apart from the one loss against RR, they have been performing quite well and will look to strengthen their position by winning as many games as they can and finishing among the top two teams of the points table after the league stage.
Defeating the in-form KKR at their home turf won’t be an easy feat and LSG will put out their best XI on 14th April. In this article, we will predict what could be LSG’s best possible XI for the upcoming clash against KKR:
Top Order
1) Quinton de Kock
Quinton de Kock has been the pick of the batters so far for LSG. Out of the 4 matches so far, he had impacted two of them with his quick-fire half-centuries. The explosive southpaw from South Africa will be a key player for LSG and they will want to fire once again as he can completely pull the game in LSG’s favor if he shines.
2) KL Rahul (C & wk)
KL Rahul has been among the most successful batters of the IPL over the years and LSG is hoping for him to have another big season with the bat. Although he hasn’t fired from the bat in the initial matches, he is still one of the most important cogs of LSG’s batting and they would want him to fire in the upcoming matches including the one against KKR.
3) Deepak Hooda
Deepak Hooda could probably replace the out-of-form Devdutt Paddikal against KKR at Eden Gardens. Hooda has featured in only one match this season so far and would be desperate to get into the XI and make his mark this season.
Middle Order
4) Marcus Stoinis
Marcus Stoinis has been in decent form this season and will be coming off fresh from a half-century against GT in the last match on a tricky wicket. Stoinis is a great asset to LSG as apart from his batting skills he can chip in with some overs with the ball as well, which provides great balance to LSG.
5) Nicholas Pooran
Nicholas Pooran is among the most destructive batters going around in the world. The West Indian wicket-keeper batter is one the best strikers of the cricket ball and can change the course of the match on its head with his ball-striking ability. He has been in good form this season and has played some important knocks for LSG in the death overs, and they would love him to continue his good form against KKR as well.
6) Ayush Badoni
Ayush Badoni came into the limelight for his ball-striking ability in the death of the find of the tournament for LSG in 2022. But since then, he hasn’t been elevated to the next level which was expected of him. However, LSG are persisting with him given his ability to change the match at the end and would like him to play a match-defining innings if such a situation arises.
7) Krunal Pandya
Krunal Pandya has been one of the top performers for LSG in the season so far both with the bat and ball. He has picked up crucial wickets for LSG as well as performed with the bat as well whenever needed. The Baroda all-rounder provides the much-needed balance to LSG at the lower middle order.
Bowlers
8) Ravi Bishnoi
Ravi Bishnoi’s performance has been below average in this year’s IPL. The leg-spinner hasn’t been able to pick up as many wickets in the middle overs as he was expected to. As the IPL progresses and wickets slow down, he will have an important role to play for LSG and they would desperately want him to come back to his wicket-taking ways.
9) Yash Thakur
Yash Thakur has done very well for LSG in the last season and this year also after a slow start to the season, he came back in form and picked up 5 wickets against GT to help LSG defend 160 on their home ground. LSG would love Thakur to carry on with his form against KKR, especially after injury to Mayank Yadav in the last match.
10) Naveen-ul-Haq
Naveen-ul-Haq could be the only international bowler in LSG bowling against KKR. The Afghanistan medium pacer has given some good performances for LSG in the past and has a good knack for picking wickets at crucial times. Therefore, they could persist with him against KKR as well.
11) Manimaran Siddharth
Manimaran Siddharth has been one of the finds of LSG in this year’s IPL along with Mayank Yadav. The slow left-arm orthodox from Tamil Nadu has performed quite well for LSG in IPL 2024. He bowled in the powerplay and during the middle-overs picked up some crucial wickets for LSG including the one of Virat Kohli.
