IPL 2024: Predicting Gujarat Titans’ Playing XI for their clash against Chennai Super Kings

Gujarat Titans (GT) will be eyeing for a payback when they host Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 59 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The defending champions outmuscled GT by 63 runs when the two teams met in Chennai earlier this season. Titans now have accumulated eight losses in 11 matches and are just one upset away from being knocked out of the tournament.

CSK, meanwhile, are aiming to move closer to playoff qualification with a double win against the bottom-placed team. Currently, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Co. are fourth in the points table with six wins from 11 matches. As the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad gears up for a crucial match on Friday, May 10, let’s take a look at the home team’s likely Playing XI

Here is GT’s predicted Playing XI for the match against CSK in IPL 2024:

Openers: Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill (c)

Wriddhiman Saha has been synonymous with free wickets this season. The keeper-batter got plenty of chances but failed to make any impact on the team. He scored just 136 runs in nine matches at a poor average of 15.11 and a strike rate of 118.25.

Shubman Gill started the tournament well but lost consistency as the tournament progressed. His team’s performance seems to have taken a toll on his batting. Notably, Gill was dismissed for just eight runs in the previous clash against CSK. GT’s batting will once again heavily depend on their skipper and it remains to be seen if he can return to form at home.

Middle-order: Sai Sudarshan, Shahrukh Khan, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia

Sai Sudarshan is the top-scorer of Titans with 424 runs in 11 matches at an average of 42.40. The southpaw is their key main strength in the middle order to stabilize the innings and help them get a good total on the board. However, his strike rate of 131.68 is the worst among the top 15 run-scorers this season.

Shahrukh Khan has now been promoted to No.4 and the right-hander is doing well in the new role. He is often there to rescue the team after a top-order collapse. David Miller and Rahul Tewatia are set in the finishing role and have been doing decently.

All-rounders: Vijay Shankar, Rashid Khan

Azmatullah Omarzai has not done anything remarkable in either department this season. The Afghanistan pacer was stingy in conceding runs but failed to pick up wickets consistently. This may prompt the management to try Vijay Shankar and vacate an overseas spot for Joshua Little to come in as an Impact Player.

Rashid Khan has not been at his best in both batting and bowling this season, a major reason behind GT’s underwhelming campaign. The right-arm spinner took two wickets in the previous match against CSK, including the dangerous Shivam Dube. But he conceded an economy rate of 12.20 in his four overs.

Bowlers: Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Noor Ahmad, Mohit Sharma

Rashid will be joined by R Sai Kishore and Noor Ahmed in the spin attack. The trio are going to give a tough time for the CSK batters in the middle overs. Noor has performed well in recent matches in terms of economic rate and wicket-taking. In the last match against RCB, the Afghan spinner conceded just 23 runs and took two wickets.

Mohit Sharma is not having the best time this year, but he will continue to lead GT’s pace department. He leaks plenty of runs, especially in the death overs, and has not been at the forefront of providing crucial breakthroughs. However, the addition of Joshua Little has bolstered their pace attack. The Irish pacer stunned everyone by picking up four wickets in his only outing in the previous match against RCB.

GT Predicted Playing XI – Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill (c), Sai Sudarshan, Shahrukh Khan, Vijay Shankar, David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Ravisrinivasan Sai Kishore, Noor Ahmad, Mohit Sharma

Impact Substitute: Joshua Little
