IPL 2023: 3 unique stats Punjab Kings have set this season

Punjab Kings have started life well this season under the leadership of veteran cricket player Shikhar Dhawan. They have won three games and lost two in their opening five games of the 2023 Indian Premier League season.

Shikhar Dhawan is amongst the top 3 run-getters of the Indian Premier League season and has been one of the most consistent players for the Punjab side this season. Let’s take a look at some of the other statistics that the Punjab Kings have already broken this season

1) Fourth captain to finish on 99*

Shikhar Dhawan of Punjab Kings accumulated 62 runs during his incredible 99 off 66 balls versus Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 9, from 37 to 99, when the eighth wickets of Punjab Kings’ innings collapsed. That is the highest score an opener has ever achieved in T20s under those circumstances.

Given the conditions of its completion and the fact that Dhawan’s shots were of the highest caliber, this is unquestionably one of the most impressive innings of the current Indian Premier League season.

2) IPL’s highest 10th-wicket partnership

In the same game itself, the Punjab Kings were able to achieve another record. To beat the previous record of 31* set by Tom Curran & Ankit Rajpoot when they played the Rajasthan Royals versus KKR in Dubai on September 30, 2020, Dhawan and Mohit Rathee put on an uninterrupted 55-run stand in the game against Sunrisers Hyderabad.

The key player in that partnership was Shikhar Dhawan, who batted till he reached 99* and helped his team to a respectable total.

3) Battled till the end

Dhawan batted with all his teammates in the same game and became the second batter (after Parthiv Patel) to have done so. Parthiv Patel made this record while playing against Chennai Super Kings at the Chepauk in Chennai. It was the opening game of the Indian Premier League season and what a way it was to start the tournament.

Shikhar Dhawan, on the other hand, was left stranded by his teammates after wickets fell regularly and he was left with no choice but to play risk-less cricket and take his team to a respectable total which ended up helping them pose a fight against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2023 Indian Premier League season.
