ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026: 3 Players Who Made a Stunning Comeback After a Long Break

The T20 World Cup 2026 commenced on February 7, with 20 teams battling for the coveted silverware in the biennial tournament. While there is a plethora of familiar faces marking their presence at the event, there are also a few returning after an extended stay on the sidelines.

Here are three players who have made a comeback after  long time in this season for the T20 World Cup 2026:

Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is one of the biggest comeback stories of the tournament. The left-handed batter is known for his explosive batting at the top of the order and has often been more prominent in franchise cricket than in international matches. He has featured in close to 200 T20 games overall and has been a key part of the Mumbai Indians setup, winning two IPL titles with the franchise. Kishan has enjoyed multiple successful IPL seasons, scoring over 400 runs in three different editions, including a standout 2020 campaign where he amassed 516 runs as Mumbai Indians defended their title.

His international purple patch came in 2022, when he struck three T20I half-centuries in five matches against Sri Lanka and South Africa. Later that year, he grabbed global attention with a stunning double century (210) in an ODI against Bangladesh. In 40 T20Is, Kishan has scored 1187 runs, including one century and nine fifties, at a strike rate of nearly 145. After spending time out of the national setup, his recent performances in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy have earned him a recall.

Logan van Beek

Netherlands all-rounder Logan van Beek is another player making a comeback on the global stage. Van Beek rose to international prominence when his heroics played a major role in West Indies failing to qualify for the ODI World Cup for the first time in history. His international debut during the 2014 T20 World Cup was forgettable with the bat, registering three consecutive scores of one. However, he made a strong impact with the ball, taking 3/9 in the Netherlands’ famous victory over England.

Since then, Van Beek has continued to ply his trade in domestic cricket across New Zealand and England. In T20Is, Van Beek has taken 43 wickets and scored 108 runs in 35 matches. Across all T20s, he boasts 214 wickets in 197 games, including three four-wicket hauls.

Brendan Taylor

Brendan Taylor

Brendan Taylor’s return to international cricket is one of the most emotional stories of the T20 World Cup 2026. He is widely regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s finest cricketers and has enjoyed a long and impactful career, particularly in the ODI format, where he was a mainstay for his national side. Taylor first gained worldwide recognition during the 2007 T20 World Cup, scoring an unbeaten 60 against Australia in Cape Town.

In January 2022, four months after announcing his retirement, Taylor shocked the cricketing world by revealing corruption-related issues within Zimbabwe cricket. He briefly stepped away from the game and explored coaching opportunities before being convinced to resume playing, with the 2027 ODI World Cup as a long-term goal. In T20Is, Taylor has scored 1216 runs in 59 matches, including one century and six half-centuries.
