Delhi Capitals who had started the IPL 2025 on a strong note now find themselves in a tricky situation as far as playoffs qualifications are concerned. Axar Patel and his side lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday night by six wickets to be placed fourth in the points table with 12 points from their nine games this campaign. The next five matches won’t be easy for Delhi as they face a tricky test if they want to get into the top four stages of the tournament.
The next game for Delhi is on Tuesday against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders. With four wins on the trot, Delhi Capitals’ season got a strong start. Then came the loss at home to Mumbai Indians by 12 runs. At one stage, Karun Nair and Abhishek Porel had put the hosts in strong position with the bat. Delhi, committed hara-kiri with the bat and lost the game with three run-outs sealing their fate. Since that loss DC have displayed erratic cricket which was seen in their loss to RCB.
Here is how DC can qualify for the playoffs
Delhi currently has 12 points from nine games. The first thing DC must do is they shouldn’t lose the game as this will put KKR on the brink of elimination. If DC happen to win with a huge margin or better run-rate while chasing, they can go second in the table pushing RCB and MI to third and fourth respectively.
DC have to win at least two more games to guarantee themselves a spot in the top four if we take 16 points as the minimum required for the season. DC though will want to win at least four games and head to 20 points in their group phase campaign. Punjab Kings with 11 points are right behind DC while Lucknow Super Giants has 10 points from ten games.
After their game against Kolkata, DC then play Sunrisers Hyderabad away from home which could be another tricky encounter. This will be followed by a visit to Dharamshala to take on PBKS and their final home game against Gujarat Titans and rounding off their campaign against Mumbai Indians. If DC loses three or more games they would want the likes of Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Lucknow to lose at least three games out of the four they have left to play. With five matches left in the season, the Capitals know they have lots to play for and cannot afford any more slip ups.
