Herschelle Gibbs kicked off the inaugural T20 World Cup in style in 2007. In the first match of the tournament, he played a mind-blowing knock to guide his team to victory against West Indies. In the first innings West Indies scored 205 runs posing a mammoth target for South Africa to chase. The daunting task was made easier by Gibbs’ onslaught. He smashed 90 runs off just 55 deliveries and stayed unbeaten till the end. South Africa won the match by 8 wickets with 14 balls to spare.

Those were the very early days in T20 international cricket when Herschelle Gibbs scored this half-century against Australia in Johannesburg. Winning the toss the Proteas opted to bat first. The home side got off to a good start but they lost their first wicket just before the powerplay ended. After that, it was Herschelle Gibbs who took charge along with his skipper Graeme Smith. Gibbs scored 56 runs as South Africa went beyond the 200-run mark in the first innings.

Here is another brilliant batting effort from Herschelle Gibbs against West Indies in a T20 World Cup game. The two teams faced off in a group-stage encounter in the 2009 T20 World Cup at the Oval. Gibbs came out to bat at No.3 and played his part in putting his team in a comfortable position at the end of the first innings. He smashed 55 runs at a strike rate of 157.14. South Africa eventually won the match by 20 runs and added valuable points to their tally.
