Champions Trophy 2025: Top 3 batters from Afghanistan vs South Africa clash

Afghanistan and South Africa clashed against each other in the first match from Group B of the ongoing Champions Trophy 2025 in Karachi. Making their debut in Champions Trophy, Afghanista had high hopes to perform well but that didn’t happen as they suffered a humiliating loss against the Proteas by a huge margin of 107 runs.

South African batters dominated the game by putting a humongous total of 315 runs on the scoreboard. Afghanistan had no answers to South Africa’s total as they were bundled out for just 208 runs in 43.3 overs in the second innings. There were some magnficient individual batting performances from both teams which entertained the crowd.

Aiden Markram came to bat at the no. 5 position and played a brilliant knock of 52 runs off just 36 balls. He remained unbeaten and ensured that South Africa get past the 300-run mark to put a fighting total against the Afghan side. His knock featured six fours and a six.

It won’t be wrong to say that Rahmat Shah was the lone fighter from the Afghanistan side who stand still against the dangerous looking South African bowlers during the chase. Rahmat played a fighting knock of 90 runs off 92 deliveries which featured nine fours and a six. However, he got no support from other batters due to which his knock went in vain and he couldn’t achieve the 100-run mark.

South Africa’s destructive opener Ryan Rickelton was named Player of the Match for his brilliant century in the first innings which set the base for a big total. Rickelton scored 103 runs off 106 deliveries which contain seven fours and a six. Rickelton might have scored more runs, however, he had to go back to pavilion after Rashid Khan’s brilliant run out.
