Top Order

Rahmanullah Gurbaz

Afghanistan’s top order failure was the major reason behind their loss to South Africa in the first match. Rahmanullah Gurbaz scored 10(14) before getting dismissed. Ibrahim Zadran struggled to get going as his 17(29) further deteriorated his team’s chase. Sediqullah Atal’s poor knock of 16(32) ensured Afghanistan fell a bit too behind in the run chase. The trio must step up in the must-win game for Afghanistan.

Middle Order

Rahmat Shah

Rahmat Shah was Afghanistan’s best performer in the game against South Africa. Rahmat’s 90(92) was the best knock of his career and he is likely to continue to bat at 4. Skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi was dismissed for a 4-ball duck and might perform better in the upcoming game. Azmatullah Omarzai’s 18(27) was disappointing as one would’ve expected a better performance from him.

Lower Middle Order

Mohammad Nabi

In the lower middle order, Afghanistan has two good All-rounders like Mohammad Nabi and Gulbadin Naib. While Nabi bowled well and claimed 2/51, his 8(17) with the bat wasn’t helpful. On the other hand, Naib had a forgettable outing as he claimed 0/42 and scored 13(19). Against England, they hold the key in the lower middle order department.

Bowlers

Fazalhaq Farooqi

Afghanistan’s bowling is one of the best in the tournament. While they collectively did decently, the key bowlers need to perform better. Fazalhaq Farooqi and Noor Ahmad both went for runs and claimed a solitary wicket. Rashid Khan couldn’t claim a wicket but scored 18(13). The trio must take wickets in their respective phases to help Afghanistan. Against England, spinners will be crucial and Noor might be highly important.
