Brain Lara will be celebrating his 55th birthday on Thursday. The former West Indies captain holds the record for the highest individual score in international cricket, both as player and captain. Lara has been one of the finest in test cricket, in 131 games he has scored 11,000 plus runs in the longest format of the game. The former Windies also have the record for the highest runs in first-class cricket as well. 

In the red ball format, he was even better than Sachin Tendulkar, with longevity of the latter, he was surpassed by the Indian great. However, Brian Lara has scored 400 runs in a test inning against England beating the record of Mathew Hayden’s 380-run highest score record in 2004.

3. 277 vs Australia, 1993

In the third test against Australia, after the home side elected to bat first, they put up a mammoth total of 503/9 in their first innings with Steve Waugh scoring a hundred for the side. In reply, Richie Richardson and Lara stitched a 293 runs partnership with the former scoring a hundred and the Southpaw playing a knock of 277 runs in 372 smashing 38 boundaries. 

2. 375 vs England, 1994 

The stylish batter scored his first triple hundred in the longest format of the game against England in the 1994 series’s 5th Test. After batting first the Windies took two early wickets of the openers and Lara built on the innings all alone and scored 375 runs and putting up a huge run of 593/5d. The test match ended in a draw, with the West Indies winning the series by 3-1. 

1. 400 vs England, 2004 

Lara against England has a fantastic record in Test matches as he had an average of 62.14 and scored almost 3000 runs in 30 games against the three lions. The southpaw in 2004 made the impossible look possible as he scored a quadruple century against England in the 4th test. He stitched a partnership with Ramnaresh Sarwan of 232 runs. The stylish left-hander scored 400 runs in 582 balls smashing 43 fours and 4 sixes in the innings.
