BBL 2024-25: Predicting Melbourne Renegades’ playing XI for their clash against Brisbane Heat

Melbourne Renegades will be up against Brisbane Heat in the 38th match of the BBL 2024/25. The match will be taking place at the Docklands Stadium in Melbourne on the 18th of January 2025 at 11:30 AM (IST). Renegades and Heat have had a similar journey in the tournament so far. Both the teams have 3 wins in their 9 matches. While Brisbane has a loss less due to a no result, Melbourne has lost 6 matches.

The Renegades are placed last in the points table and will be in a must-win situation to stay alive in the tournament. If Brisbane loses their match, they will be in a must-win situation from their next game. That promises to be a high-stakes game where neither team could afford a loss. In their last 5 matches, both teams have a solitary win. One can expect a good match between the two sides.

Here is the predicted playing XI of Melbourne Renegades for their game against Brisbane Heat in the BBL 2024/25 –

Top Order – Josh Brown, Marcus Harris, and Jake Fraser-McGurk

Batting has been a big problem for the Renegades in the ongoing season. In particular, the top order has been fragile against the bowlers. Josh Brown averages 18.87 and is inconsistent in providing good starts. So is Marcus Harris who has been pathetic with an average of 7.65 and a strike rate of 63.88. Jake Fraser-McGurk has been poor with a batting average of 10.33 and a batting SR of 103.33.

Middle Order – Jacob Bethell, Tim Seifert (WK), and Will Sutherland (C)

The middle order of the Renegades isn’t impressive either. Jacob Bethell at number 4 has shown promise but hasn’t converted the good stars to great performances. Tim Seifert has done a good job as a wicketkeeper. But he has struggled to rotate the strike in the middle overs phase. Skipper Will Sutherland hasn’t been able to get going with the bat. As a bowler, he has been handy as a fifth bowler.

Lower Middle Order – Harry Dixon and Tom Rogers

The lower middle order of the Renegades might have Harry Dixon and Tom Rogers. The former hasn’t done a lot in the two games he has played so far. The latter has been the best performer for the Renegades in the ongoing season. Rogers averages 48.50 as a batter and 17.56 as a bowler. He’s a genuine wicket-taker with the ball and has claimed the most wickets for the Renegades (16).

Bowlers – Fergus O’Neill, Adam Zampa, and Callum Stow

The bowling attack of the Renegades has been decent. With Sutherland, Rogers, and Bethell being more than helpful, the pure bowlers of the Renegades have been able to do their job pretty well. Fergus O’Neill has been decently economical. Adam Zampa has done a good job in the middle overs despite being unlucky. Stow is likely to get another game as he did not bowl badly against the Hurricanes.
