India and Pakistan’s ceasefire has given hopes of a swift resumption to the Indian Premier League 2025 season. The last game played was between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, which was stopped after just 10.1 overs. BCCI has stated its desire to restart the tournament as soon as possible after the Indian government gives its blessings.
The sudden stop to the tournament has put a huge curveball in BCCI’s path since the season was set to end on 25th May 2025. The revised schedule would not only be taxing for the organisers but also for the players, with a few more double headers being planned to make sure the tournament ends soon.
One of the biggest factors that has to be taken in is the fact that international cricket’s resumption is also around the corner. England are set to begin their home season, while India is also set to get ready for their busy season. Australia and South Africa, on the other hand, are set to play the 2025 WTC Final at Lords starting on 11th June.
Here are the 3 IPL teams that will be at a loss if the overseas players don’t return for IPL 2025
3- Delhi Capitals

Keeping in mind the WTC final, which is just under a month away, the Australia and South African cricket boards may ask their players not to risk any sort of injury. This would mean that Mitchell Starc and Tristan Stubbs could potentially miss the final few games of the season for the Delhi Capitals. Starc has been one of the key bowlers for DC, especially in the death overs. Stubbs, on the other hand, has done a great job so far, playing as a responsible middle-order batter with the ability to finish the game as well..
2- Lucknow Super Giants

Rishabh Pant is already under pressure after his elevation as LSG’s captain has fallen flat so far. Lucknow still have faint hopes of making it to the playoffs if they win all their games and other results go their way. The biggest problem for Lucknow is that South African batter Aiden Markram and his opening partner, Mitchell Marsh, could be involved in the WTC finals. This would mean that LSG would have to find a new opening when the tournament restarts.
1- Royal Challengers Bengaluru

Seamer Josh Hazlewood is set to miss the rest of IPL 2025 due to the injury he suffered. Even if the 34-year-old recovers in time before the restart, Cricket Australia may not give him the required clearance to rejoin his teammates in Bengaluru for the rest of the season. Hazlewood has been having constant fitness worries, and his presence in the WTC finals, along with Starc and Cummins, will be the key for Australia if they have to retain the title.
