3 reasons why the Defending Champions (KKR) might fail to qualify in the play-offs

3 reasons why the Defending Champions (KKR) might fail to qualify in the play-offs

The IPL defending champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, are in a tough spot in the points table. They are eyeing a spot in the playoffs, but that might not be the easiest job, as there are a few more teams in contention.

A few problems have persisted for them throughout the season, and they have not been able to address that to full extent. If that continues, they might not be able to make it to the playoffs this season. Here we look at the reasons why the defending champions might fail to qualify for the playoffs.

3. Batting problems

The KKR batting lineup have been very inconsistent in all the matches that they have played. Only the team captain, Ajinkya Rahane, has gotten some consistent runs. Others have not been able to do much. Rinku Singh, Venkatesh Iyer, and even Sunil Narine have not delivered with the bat.

2. Andre Russell not firing

Andre Russell is their biggest match-winner, but he has not been able to deliver as much as is expected out of him. He has done well in the last two games and even scored a fifty but has looked out of touch for the remainder of the season. When he is not performing, it is always difficult for the team to make it through.

1. Strong competition from other teams

KKR are now in a position where they need to win both their remaining games. If they lose even one game, they are out of the tournament. Even if they win both matches, they will have to rely on other teams to lose matches. MI, PBKS, and DC look in good touch and have a better chances of making it through.
