3 reasons why South Africa can win the Champions Trophy 2025

In just three weeks, the Champions Trophy will begin. After an eight-year break, eight teams will compete for the coveted trophy, which will be hosted by Pakistan starting February 19. Regarding South Africa, the Proteas have had an amazing run of success in recent years, making it to the finals or the round of four at every significant ICC tournament. The last time South Africa won the ICC Champions Trophy was in 1998 since they have faced to win the ICC tournament.

Going into the tournament, South Africa has a good squad that can give a tough fight until the end if given the chance. In recent times, South Africa has done well in all ICC tournaments. Even though South Africa has failed to win an ICC tournament, they are always considered a powerhouse.

Here are the top three reasons why South Africa can win the Champions Trophy 2025

1. Good Bowling unit

Even though South Africa is missing out on Anrich Nortje he still has to recover from the injury. However, they still got a good fast bowling unit of Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi. They also got a good spin attack consisting of Keshav Maharaj and  Tabraiz Shams. Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj will be the main bowlers for South Africa to get them a break breakthrough. Knowing the spin-friendly condition in Pakistan Keshav Maharaj and  Tabraiz Shams can get control of the game in middle order.

2. Strong Middle-order

Many players who played in the ICC World Cup 2023 are still part of this team. South Africa has a good middle order. With the likes of Aiden Makram, David Miller, and Heinrich Klaasen South Africa gets a strong middle order which is trouble for opponents’ bowlers.

3. Improved big-tournament mindset

In recent times South Africa has improved a lot in ICC tournaments. Regarding the 2023 World Cup, they were defeated by India in the semifinals and subsequently suffered a devastating setback in the 2024 T20 World Cup final. The Proteas have nearly won an ICC title in the past two tournaments, but they have yet to pull it off. The team has had good tournaments in recent times and with a perfect line-up they won the trophy.
