3 reasons why RCB lost in the IPL 2025 clash against PBKS

3 reasons why RCB lost in the IPL 2025 clash against PBKS

RCB lost the rain-affected match against PBKS by 5 wickets at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in the IPL 2025. It was their third straight loss at home, and it seemed very difficult for them to open their account in their backyard. After claiming back-to-back wins to start their campaign, RCB has had a roller coaster of a journey, claiming 3 losses and 2 wins.

In the game against PBKS, not a lot of things went in RCB’s way. The visiting side was collectively better than the home side across all departments. But some important factors decided RCB’s fate in the match. Had RCB put up a better performance by getting the basics right, they could’ve had a much closer game.

3 reasons why RCB lost to PBKS in the IPL 2025 at home:

Toss

In a rain-affected game, the toss plays a big role. PBKS won the toss and rightfully opted to bowl first. They got a chance to bowl when the wicket was damp, which helped the bowlers to make the most of the bowling conditions. The pacers could trouble the batters with their extra bounce and early swing. It helped them chase a fairly low total. With the number of overs reduced, the chasing side would have a better chance of winning a T20 match.

Lack of application from the batters

RCB batters did not read the surface well. Barring Tim David and Rajat Patidar, all other batters registered single-digit scores. Most of them got dismissed in an attempt to play big shots without even getting set in the middle. The RCB batters had to play out a few deliveries to know the nature of the surface. However, the lack of application meant PBKS could run over and reduce them to 41/7 at one point.

Lack of support for Josh Hazlewood with the ball

Josh Hazlewood was perfectly suited to bowl at M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on the given night. It was a surface that had a bit of extra bounce. Hazlewood, with his height, made a difference. Unfortunately, neither Yash Dayal nor Bhuvneshwar Kumar could extract bounce from the surface. While they are naturally swing bowlers, a pacy seamer was better suited for the conditions. The spinners went for runs, which didn’t help RCB’s cause either.
