3 reasons why Rajat Patidar should be dropped from the 4th Test

3 reasons why Rajat Patidar should be dropped from the 4th Test

Team India has given opportunities to multiple young faces to make their debut in this Test series against England. Rajat Patidar is one of those names who finally got his opportunity to wear the Indian jersey after years of hard work in domestic cricket. But unfortunately, his debut series has not gone the way he would have wanted. In this article, we will take a look at 3 reasons why Rajat Patidar should be dropped in the 4th Test.

High-stake encounter

It will be very harsh to drop Rajat Patidar after his failures in just two Test matches but looking at the juncture at which this series is, it becomes very important to not be complacent on any front. The next Test is not just important in the context of the series but more importantly, World Test Championship points are also at stake. Every match is important if India wants to play the final of the WTC once again which makes Rajat Patidar’s selection an unlikely proposition.

KL Rahul’s comeback

After an injury, KL Rahul is expected to make a comeback in the next Test. If he comes back then Patidar’s selection will be next to impossible as Rahul is in some fine form currently. He scored a vital century in difficult conditions at Centurion. If he regains his match fitness then his selection is not something that will be debated. The next Test is crucial for the Indian team and the management would like to play in-form KL Rahul in place of Rajat Patidar.

KL Rahul brings experience to the table

Another reason behind Rajat Patidar’s exclusion can be his inexperience. Already team India is missing senior players like Virat Kohli and in these circumstances, an experienced player like KL Rahul becomes an automatic selection. In Rajkot India had a very inexperienced batting unit with only Rohit Sharma and Ravindra Jadeja being the experienced campaigners. KL Rahul’s experience holds value for India in the business end of the series and that can pave the way for his comeback.
