3 reasons why New Zealand can win the Champions Trophy 2025

3 reasons why New Zealand can win the Champions Trophy 2025

New Zealand have been one of the most successful teams in the history of the ICC tournaments as they have made it to the knockout stage on a couple of occasions. They have made it to the semi-finals of the ICC ODI World Cups in 2011, 2015, 2019, and 2023 consecutively. Now, all eyes will be on them in the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025.

The Blackcaps will start their journey in the tournament with their campaign opener against the hosts and defending champions, Pakistan on February 20. New Zealand will be playing under the captaincy of Mitchell Santner in the prestigious cricket quadrennial.

With that said, here we’ll look at the three reasons why New Zealand can win the Champions Trophy 2025 and win their maiden title in the history of the tournament.

Bowling Attack

The core bowling attack of New Zealand will consist of four out-and-out pace bowlers, including the veteran pacers Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry. They will be accompanied by the young pacers, Will O’Rourke and Ben Sears. So, the Kiwi pace attack will be a mix of both young bowlers and the experience of the Ferguson-Henry duo.

This pace attack could pose a serious threat to the opponent batters in the Champions Trophy 2025, especially in the powerplay phase of the games. The experience of Henry might be lethal to face with the new ball for the batters.

Recent run of form in ODIs

New Zealand have been in a sensational run of form with the bat in the ODIs since they played the semi-final in the ODI World Cup 2023. They have won two out of three ODI series since the prestigious cricket quadrennial. Just after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup, New Zealand defeated Bangladesh by 2-1 in the three-match ODI series.

Following that, they lost to Sri Lanka by 0-2 in the three-match ODI series. However, they made a comeback in the next three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka. This time at home, the Blackcaps outplayed the Islanders by a 2-1 margin in the three-match ODI series.

Their current form in the 50-over format is also indicating their potential success in winning the title in the upcoming ninth edition of the tournament.

Consistent performances in ICC events

The Kiwis have been one of the most consistent teams in the ICC tournaments; they have made it to the semi-finals of the ODI World Cups on several occasions. Besides that, they are also known for their brilliant performances in the marquee international tournaments.

Considering their previous performances in the major ICC tournaments, New Zealand are expected to break the jinx of knockout defeats in the knockouts of the ICC tournaments. They might end up winning the Champions Trophy 2025 owing to their amazing consistency in the bigger tournaments.
