3 reasons why KL Rahul can be the X Factor player for India against England

3 reasons why KL Rahul can be the X Factor player for India against England

With the T20 season logging off and a new World Test Championship Cycle on the horizon, India is set to tour England for a five-match test series. The first test is set to begin on 20th June at Headingley. The young Indian test team will commence its new era following the retirements of two of the most important players from the national side – Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Although the Indian batting order looks feeble and inexperienced on paper, it’s an opportunity of a lifetime for the ones in the squad to make a name for themselves. Among the batters in the squad, a name that stands out is Kumar Lokesh Rahul. The right-handed versatile batter will be on his third English tour, and he will be looking forward to contributing towards the team’s victory.

Here are three reasons why KL Rahul may become the X factor for the Indian side.

KL Rahul’s versatility reigns supreme

KL Rahul is amongst those unique batters who can play different batting roles and bat at different positions. He can be entrusted with any batting position, whether as an opener, number four, or even lower. His ability to keep wickets, besides being a great slip fielder, also makes him crucial in swinging English conditions.

KL Rahul’s experience

KL Rahul has already played nine tests in England and has scored 614 runs at an average of over 35. He has also struck two centuries on English soil. His batting technique aligns perfectly with English conditions. He is sure to be the anchor in chief of the Indian side in this test series.

KL Rahul’s recent form

While it may be wrong to compare forms of T20 cricket with the game’s true format, it’s undeniable that Rahul has been on a resurgence since IPL 2025. He scored 525 runs in 14 innings for his franchise, which is a testimony to his solid form in recent times.
