3 reasons why Joe Root can break Sachin Tendulkar’s most runs in Tests

3 reasons why Joe Root can break Sachin Tendulkar's most runs in Tests

England cricketer Joe Root has become the latest player to join the 13,000-run club in Test cricket. The former English skipper is now just under 3000 runs away from becoming the top run-getter in the longest format of the game. The feat was achieved in the sole Test between England and Zimbabwe that is taking place at Trent Bridge Stadium in Nottingham.

After this game, Root will be playing in the five-Test series against India and will also be part of the Ashes series in Australia later this year. Root, has become of the most consistent scorers in the longest format of the game in the past few years. His appetite for runs has seen him procure one record after other along the way.

Here are the three reasons why Root can go past Tendulkar’s most runs in Test cricket.

3- Age and fitness on his side

Former England skipper Joe Root is just 34 and half years old and can go on for at least next five years. By this time if he keeps scoring runs at the pace that he has been then Root can even become the first batter to score 18,000 runs in Test cricket. Root has been scoring centuries for fun and is already the leading century maker for England in the red-ball format.

2- A Massive amount of Test cricket in the last few years

The introduction of the World Test Championship 2025-27 cycle will see the English side play a total of 21 Test matches. With just 3000 runs left, Root can at least get close to the 15,921 runs scored by Tendulkar in the current cycle. If Root scores a few massive double tons and even triple centuries, then the batter could very well break Sachin’s record in the current cycle.

1- Amazing conversion rate

One of the biggest changes that has been witnessed in Root’s batting is his ability to convert starts and make centuries. Root since 2021 has scored 16 fifties and 19 centuries. Based on this stat alone, one can see the consistency that Root has developed over the years. With England set to play more than 10 Tests this year alone, Root will be looking to score a lot more runs with the bat.
