3 reasons why India should play Arshdeep Singh in the next Test vs England

3 reasons why India should play Arshdeep Singh in the next Test vs England

India’s bowlers, apart from Jasprit Bumrah, mostly had a below-par outing in the first Test of the series between India and England. A couple of key reasons behind it were selection and improper usage of the bowlers. India can rectify mistakes for the remainder of the series, especially with the selection of players.

As Bumrah is unlikely to play all 5 Tests of the series, a natural change becomes a reality. While Bumrah is an irreplaceable entity, the best chance for the visiting side would be to include Arshdeep Singh in the side. He might be able to do what Siraj, Shardul, and Prasidh couldn’t in the first Test.

Here are 3 reasons why India should play Arshdeep Singh in the next Test vs England

Has exposure to playing in England in County Cricket

Arshdeep is one of those Indian pacers who has played County Cricket. He should have played the Headingley Test, considering he played for Kent, whose home venue is at Headingley, Leeds. With the experience he has in the County, Arshdeep could be handy in the overcast conditions of England.

Ability to swing the ball both ways and in overcast conditions

As England always tends to have overcast conditions on offer, swing bowlers become key in a bowling attack. The left-arm pacer is one of those rare bowlers who can swing the ball both ways. With his ability to swing, Singh can become threatening from his end.

The ineffectiveness of pacers apart from Jasprit Bumrah

Indian bowlers, apart from Jasprit Bumrah, did not perform well in the Headingley Test. Prasidh Krishna, Mohammed Siraj, Shardul Thakur, and Ravindra Jadeja failed to pick wickets at a quick rate. Arshdeep could be a better option in this regard, given his ability to swing the ball.
