3 reasons why India can whitewash Australia in their ongoing T20I series

The Indian team is looking for a quick turnaround after the loss in the ODI World Cup final. They have already kicked off their preparations for the next big tournament with a T20 series against Australia. They are aiming to build a core of players before the T20 World Cup in 2024. The Men in Blue won the first match of the series at Vishakhapatnam and they would be eyeing to replicate the same in the second match at Thiruvananthapuram. This is a young side but a potent one nevertheless. Let’s take a look at 3 reasons why India can whitewash Australia in the ongoing T20 series.

#1. Dynamic Openers

Team India has gone with the explosive duo of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Ruturaj Gaikwad as their openers whereas Steve Smith is opening the innings for Australia who looks like a post-dated cheque in this format. He did score a half-century but the former Aussie captain never looked in command. He played with a strike rate of 126.83 which is nowhere near the demands of this format. The Aussie team is unlikely to change the combination for at least two more matches which can give the Indians a healthy lead in this series.

#2. Non-Performing All-rounders

The Australian team is persisting with Marcus Stoinis as the all-round option but he has been out of form for a long time. He looked in a shambolic touch in the recently concluded World Cup as well. Stoinis has neither been delivering with the bat nor with the ball. The team management would be hoping that Stoinis turns up with contributions in the upcoming matches as without an all-rounder the Aussie team might be in huge trouble.

#3. Inexperienced Spin Department

As it appears at the moment the Australian is looking to give the young leg-spinner, Tanveer Sangha, a few opportunities to show his skills but going with only one spinner in India, and that too a young and inexperienced spinner might be walking on thin ice. It would be interesting to observe how long the team management will persist with Sangha when they have Zampa on the bench. It might not be too long if Sangha’s lean patch continues with the ball.
