3 reasons why Deepak Chahar can be a game-changer for MI in IPL 2025

3 reasons why Deepak Chahar can be a game-changer for MI in IPL 2025

The five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK), made a surprising decision ahead of the 18th edition of the league. They decided to release their star pacer Deepak Chahar ahead of the auction and the pacer was picked up by another five-time IPL champion Mumbai Indias (MI) for a whopping price of Rs. 9.25 crores.

The reason behind CSK releasing Chahar could be his unavailability due to continuous injuries. Chahar has missed a lot of matches in the past few years for CSK. However, the star pacer would be now joining the mighty pace attack of MI along with the greats like Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult.

Here are the 3 reasons why Deepak Chahar can be a game-changer for MI in IPL 2025:

1. Ability to pick wickets in powerplay

The right-handed medium pacer has the ability to move the ball both ways in the initial stage of an innings. It has always helped him to provide early wickets for the team in the powerplay. There have been many instances when CSK skipper MS Dhoni used to let him bowl all his four overs in the powerplay itself in order to get more wickets.

2. Economical

Deepak Chahar is known to be a very economical bowler in the shortest format of the game. He doesn’t have much pace which forces the batters to put extra power to play shots against him. Getting runs with timing the ball isn’t effective when Deepak bowls as he doesn’t have enough pace. Also, he is very consistent with his line and lengths which helps him to avoid leaking runs with extras.

3. Can contribute with bat

Deepak Chahar is an underrated batter as there have been few occasions, especially in international cricket, where he helped the Indian team win the match from the verge of a loss. MI will definitely hope to get some contribution from Deepak’s bat as well.
