3 players who were unlucky to miss out on IND squad for the AUS T20I series

The Indian squad for the T20 series against Australia was announced recently. The selections reflect a thought process of going forward and making a core of young players for the next T20 World Cup in 2024. However, there are a few notable omissions from the squad which attracted everyone’s attention. Let’s take a look at 3 players who were unlucky to miss out on the selection in the squad for the series against the Kangaroos.

1. Sanju Samson

The one omission that garnered the most attention from the fans was Sanju Samson. Sanju has been a consistent performer in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals and he has always been around the Indian setup but the Rajasthan Royals skipper has not been able to cement his place in the Indian team. Once again, he has not been called up for the Indian team. This is a clear indication that he might not be in the plans for the next T20 World Cup which is a huge setback for the wicketkeeper-batsman.

2. Yuzvendra Chahal

Another Rajasthan Royals player who has been snubbed for the selection is Yuzvendra Chahal. The leg-spinner has found himself out of favor in the last two T20 World Cups. In 2021 he was not selected for the squad and the next year, in 2022, he did not even play a single match in the T20 World Cup. Chahal was also not picked for the ODI World Cup squad which was a big blow for the leg-spinner who has been consistent with his performances. It would be interesting to see how things pan out for Yuzvendra Chahal.

3. Umran Malik

Umran Malik

The fast bowler from Jammu & Kashmir has been close to the Indian setup in the last couple of years. He was included for multiple series in this format but his exclusion from this series is a big surprise. Malik is known for his tearaway pace and has the skill sets that can be useful in the shortest format. He has not been in the best of the rhythm but he is surely a prospect who needs to be nurtured but for the time being it seems the management is looking somewhere else.
