In a disappointing piece of news for Australian cricket fans and the Aussie cricket team, star all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been sidelined from the entire upcoming edition of the ICC Champions Trophy. It all happened when Marsh complained of a back injury. Notably, the star all-rounder has been vulnerable to injuries a lot in the last couple of years. 

So, it is being considered as a big setback for Australia’s hopes to clinch the third title of the ICC Champions Trophy. In the same line of events, Cricket Australia is set to announce the replacement for Mitchell Marsh in the Australia squad within the next few days.

Beau Webster

The Tasmania-born all-rounder was in action for the Melbourne Stars in the recently concluded Big Bash League 2024-25. He contributed both with the bat and the ball for his side in the tournament. Webster scored 184 runs in seven innings, with a decent batting average of 30.66, hitting a half-century. 

Besides that, he also scalped 4 wickets in four innings, including the best performance of ‘3 wickets at 42 runs in a match.’ So, his name might be considered as one of the three possible replacements for Mitchell Marsh in the Australia squad for the Champions Trophy 2025

Copper Connolly

The star all-rounder Copper Connolly was in a sensational run of form with the bat for his BBL side Perth Scorchers in the tournament’s recently concluded edition. He smashed 351 runs in 10 innings, including three unbeaten appearances, with an excellent batting average of 50.14.

Connolly also scored two half-centuries with the bat for his side. He was also the leading run-scorer for the Scorchers in the Big Bash League 2024-25. Apart from his batting heroics, Connolly also scalped 6 wickets with the ball in nine innings, with a decent economy rate of 7.41. Cricket Australia might also look ahead to include him to replace Mitchell Marsh in the ninth edition of the Champions Trophy, to be played in Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The star middle-order batter, Tim David impressed everyone with his outstanding batting performances in BBL 2024-25 for the eventual champions Hobart Hurricanes. David was one of the vital cogs in the wheel for the Hurricanes to help them clinch the glorious BBL title after defeating Sydney Thunder in the tournament’s final. 

The 28-year-old scored 254 runs in nine innings, with a magnificent batting average of 42.33 and an amazing batting strike rate of 177.62, hitting two half-centuries. The Aussie management is expected to think about Tim David as an out-and-out batter to replace the all-rounder Mitchell Marsh in their squad for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2024-25.
