Team India are all set to play a three-match T20I series against Ireland with Jasprit Bumrah captaining them on his return from injury. Last time, team India visited Ireland, the Irish put up a valiant fight before losing the two-match series by 2-0. While the first match was regulatory for team India, a score of 108 in 12 overs is quite competitive and credit must go to the Irish batters. The second game was a neck-to-neck contest that India won by mere four runs. Here are three Irish players who impressed on India’s last tour of Ireland.
3. Mark Adair
Pace bowling all rounder Mark Adair remained wicketless in his two overs in the first match. Moreover, he did not get the chance to bat. However, he made up for the missed chance in the second game. Firstly, he remained the pick of the bowlers for Ireland with figures of 3/42 in four overs and then remained unbeaten on 23* off 12, including three fours and a six at the strike rate of 191.66. He was unlucky to have lost the game by just four runs. With luck on his side, he would have driven his team home on any other day. Overall, he was really impressive in the second game following a quieter first.
2. Craig Young
Craig Young remained one of the more consistent campaigners for Ireland throughout the two matches. While he scalped two wickets for 18 runs in the first T20I, he returned to follow that up with another two-wicket haul recording figures of 2/35 in four overs in the second T20I. He remained the highest wicket-taker of the series with four wickets. For no fault of his, he had to end up on the losing end of the bargain. However, his performance gained a lot of praise after the series.
1. Harry Tector
The T20I series between India and Ireland in 2022 remained a batter-dominated series. While the first game saw 219 runs scored in 21.2 overs, the second game saw 446 runs scored in 40 overs. As such, Irish middle-order batter Harry Tector is a big reason why Ireland could compete neck-to-neck against India. In the first game, he slammed 64* off 33, including six fours and three sixes, at the strike rate of 193.93. In the second, he added 38 off 29 with five fours. Overall, his tally accounted for 103 runs making him the second-highest run-scorer after India’s Deepak Hooda with 151.
